5 Steps to Better Gut Health This Spring
When we transition into the spring season, we’ll discover that our bodies are still feeling the impacts of winter. Maybe we’re realizing that we need more rest, and instead of bursting into the season, we might tip toe into the sun gradually with a hand over our eyes to filter out the brightness of the sun. Just as it takes incremental time for the seasons to change, our bodies adjust gradually too.
While you may want to remain in a state of slumber through the progression of seasons, your gut lining is actually refreshing itself every 3-4 days. Your digestive tract will naturally slough off its lining to make way for new cells so that it can continue to operate, cleanse and nourish you. To ease your way into spring and support your digestion, we’ve come up with five ways you can strive for better gut health this season.
5 Steps to Better Gut Health This Spring
#1 Eat asparagus
Packed with anti-inflammatory phytochemicals like quercetin (which we know helps fight seasonal allergies from this blog here) along with fiber, asparagus is the perfect food to feed the good bacteria in your gut. Asparagus is also high in asparagine, an amino acid, which serves as a natural diuretic to eliminate liquid from the body.
#2 Eliminate the inflammatory
Speaking of inflammatory, take stock of what you’re consuming that isn’t high in nutritional value. We’re looking at caffeine, alcohol and processed foods/sugar. Although inflammation through food varies from person to person, we can usually attribute inflammation to dairy products, wheat and even canned foods like beans.
#3 Try a liver detox
To provide ease to your gut while it renews, you can give your liver a detox. Your liver is constantly working to eliminate toxins and it can use an occasional flush so that it can reset. Our two favorite products for a liver detox are the SoulShine Detox Elixir and Dragon Herbs Liver Tonic.
#4 Take a nature walk
Did you know that being in nature actually gives you exposure to microbes that can help your gut health? It almost seems too simple to be true, but it is! The microbial diversity in nature can directly improve your microbiome and in turn, benefit your overall gut health. Pair your time outside with a walk, and you’ll be golden. Light exercise helps move stagnation in your body so that your liver qi can be unblocked and free flowing.
#5 Be treated for acupuncture
When you’re being treated for acupuncture, you’re allowing for a release of energy and an influx of reinforcement for anything that may be weakened due to diet, emotions or stress. We know that diet, emotions and stress directly impact your gut health which is why an acupuncture treatment is important to replenish, restore and reset your body.
