Detox Salad Recipe

Even in your best attempt, sometimes it can be hard to consistently nourish your body with the foods needed to support your health. Whether that be due to holiday celebrations, stress, being busy or something else, eating to fuel and support your body in the best way possible can feel like a chore when life takes over.

Detoxing your body after a stressful period of your life is crucial to cleansing out any toxins or stagnant energy within your body. When you detox your body, you are giving your body a clean slate to work with so it’s easier to keep nourishing yourself.

A simple salad recipe can help you get back on track and not feel overwhelmed with trying to eat healthy. If you store the dressing and salad separately, you can easily take it to work for lunch a few days during the week to make meal prepping easy.

Here are a few ingredients worth highlighting:

Ginger: this is an amazing anti-inflammatory foods that aids your digestive system and cleanses the body of toxins.

Kale: the base of your salad is filled with chlorophyll, calcium, iron and vitamin A. It’s great for supporting your stomach.

Lemon: this fruit is a powerful immunity booster and is packed with vitamin C.

Turmeric: this is an amazing spice to have in your meals. It is filled with antioxidants that help kill free radicals.

Ginger: this is another great anti-inflammatory food and antioxidant.

Cilantro: this herb helps strengthen digestion and regulate qi flow.

Ingredients

Lemon Ginger Dressing

  • 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice

  • 4 tbsp. olive oil

  • 1 tbsp. freshly grated ginger

  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed

  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • pepper, to taste

Detox Salad

  • 4 large leaves curly kale, de-stemmed

  • 1 tsp. olive oil

  • pinch of salt

  • 2 cups red cabbage, thinly chopped

  • 1 medium carrot, peeled into thin strips

  • 2 green onions, chopped

  • 1 rounded cup broccolini, chopped

  • 2 radishes, thinly sliced

  • 1 small avocado, cubed

  • ¼ cup roasted sunflower seeds

  • 2 tbsp fresh mint, minced

  • 2 tablespoon fresh cilantro, minced

Directions

  1. Blend together the ingredients for the dressing in a small blender and set aside. ​

  2. Finely chop kale and place it in a large salad bowl along with 1 teaspoon olive oil and salt. Gently massage the kale between your fingers for 2-3 minutes until the kale is darker, tender, and shiny. 

  3. Add the remaining salad ingredients and toss together with the Lemon Ginger Dressing. 

  4. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up 2 days.
