Auricular Acupuncture
As part of TCM, auricular (ear) acupuncture is a diagnostic and treatment system based on normalizing the body’s dysfunction through stimulation of a point on the ear. Stimulation of a reflex point can relieve symptoms throughout the entire body. This practice can be done with hair-thin needles, seeds, or finger pressure. The ear is considered to be a whole microsystem in regards to acupuncture. The World Health Organization has standardized 39 points on the ear, and of those include 10 “master points” known to be the most useful. 1
Ear Acupuncture is quite modern compared to other forms of TCM. The practice was developed in the mid-20th century by a French physician, Paul Nogier. Since then, it has gained in popularity again recently and has been proven to be useful for a wide range of health issues including 2:
Allergies
Anxiety
Arthritis
Chronic pain
Constipation
Depression
Insomnia
Low back pain
Migraines
