Acupuncture and Cupping for Pain

Are you dealing with chronic back pain? Muscle soreness? Pain from sitting at work all day or using your phone too much? Frequent headaches? We’re here for you. The most common reason people seek natural medicine as opposed to conventional medicine is pain. Acupuncture and cupping are the two most effective treatments in alternative medicine for treating pain. Let’s take a look at how effective these two treatment options can be.

Acupuncture

Those new to holistic healing methods might have questions about the effectiveness of acupuncture or even be scared of it. Many people fear that pressing needles into the skin can be painful, but there is little to no pain at all. How do these hair-thin needles heal your body then? The needles are strategically placed in what are called acupoints of the body, which stimulate the central nervous system. In turn, this releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes incite the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being. The National Institute of Health (NIH) studies have shown that acupuncture is an effective treatment for pain, headaches, asthma, addiction, nausea, carpal tunnel, osteoarthritis, stroke rehabilitation, and more.

Cupping

Cupping is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy that involves placing heated glass jars on the skin to create suction. The suction facilitates healing with blood flow and facilitates the flow of “qi” in the body. In TCM, qi is the word for life force. The suction force expands and breaks open tiny blood vessels under the skin. After this, your body treats the area as an injury. More blood is sent to the area to stimulate a natural healing process. Essentially, cupping is a way of clearing the pores and releasing toxins, too. Cupping is most commonly used to treat back pain.
