We’re sharing practical and easy Valentine's ideas for couples and the best part of it all? These dates can happen on Valentine's Day or even on a Sunday morning. Having these date ideas in your back pocket will come in handy when you’re planning February 14th or if you’re looking for an easy, everyday date with your partner.
10 Valentines Day Ideas for Couples
#1. Order takeout and tailgate by the beach
We’re lucky to be based out of Southern CA where the beaches are endless so this is a no-brainer for us, and it’s a beautiful way to spend a date. If you’re not within driving distance to the beach, tailgating at your local state park or even picking up dinner and having a picnic in your backyard or patio can be romantic and thoughtful.
#2. Skin time
When you're struggling to connect, try this simple exercise (which doubles as a date idea). Here’s what you’ll do: Get in bed naked and simply cuddle and talk. Set parameters so that the first 10 minutes of skin time is just about connection, vulnerability and talking. No sex. Once the 10 minutes is up, skin time can evolve into whatever you want, but it’s crucial to spend at least 10 minutes opening up together.
#3. Nostalgic tunes and a long drive
Make a playlist of the songs you listened to when you first started dating and go for a drive together. Blast the tunes and live in memory lane for a while. You never know what fun memories will pop up and bring you closer together.
#4. IV Drip Session
Couples that hydrate together, stay together. If you haven’t had a chance to try IV drip therapy, consider this your sign. Think of it as a way to instantly get the wellness refresh you need. Usually these sessions are only 30 minutes long, and help with migraines, sore muscles, cold and flu symptoms and energy levels. We love going to the Hydration Room in San Clemente, CA for a relaxing, spa-like treat.
#5. Eye gaze
Admittedly, eye gazing can make your skin crawl (at first). It’s not easy to sit down and look into your partners eyes, especially if you’re feeling spicy with one another or don’t want to be vulnerable right away. But if you’re ready to go to the depths, build connection and intimacy quickly - eye gazing is for you. Sure, you’ll giggle through the first few minutes but the trick is to set a 5 minute timer and do your best to stay present and engaged. Once you master the 5 minute level, feel free to work your way up to 15 minutes of uninterrupted eye contact. It’s a simple activity and can even be a great add-on to a busy week when you haven’t had the chance to spend quality time with one another.
#6. Wine tasting
When was the last time you went wine tasting as a couple? We’re not talking about going on a wine tasting trip for a bachelorette or milestone birthday - we’re talking, a good old fashioned date. Our favorite local wineries are Rancho Capistrano Winery and Laguna Canyon Winery. Have a flight and indulge for the day.
#7. Take a yoga class together
Moving your body and grounding together will naturally create flow and relaxation to your date. And of course, yoga can happen from the comfort of your home and Youtube (we love Yoga with Adriene) or you can go to a class together. This is a fantastic way to connect with yourself and your partner, all while expanding your lungs and strengthening your body.
#8. Cook and listen to music you both love
There’s something so beautiful about creating a meal with your person. Oftentimes, we’re in the daily grind of life and meal prep can feel tedious but THIS activity is meant to slow you down and excite your senses. Smell all the good aromas. Listen to songs that you both love. Take little tastes of your meal as it's being prepared. Soak in this time and know that when you create together, you’re also manifesting the love and life you want to live.
#9. Walk and talk
Sometimes a little walk talk can go a long way. This is particularly effective when we’re trying to connect, talk through or process an idea. Having a way to literally move through the conversation without necessarily needing to look at each other face-to-face is crucial. Take the walk talk around your block or pick a beautiful destination to up the ante.
#10. Swap dinner for brunch
This idea works really well for folks that don’t like to stay up late, and of course, for parents. It can be challenging to plan a dinner date when you’re a new mom or if you just prefer to go to bed at 9pm. Instead of making dinner plans, opt for brunch and get a fancy meal with your person while you have the energy to spare.
